Dialogue Script: This feeling of wanderlust!
Carla: Hey Ralph, good to see you! I heard through the grapevine that you´re getting ready for another trip abroad. Is it really true?
Ralph: Yeah, you know, I´ve had a strong sense of wanderlust ever since I was a teenager.
Carla: Really? So, tell me, where are you headed this time?
Ralph: Asia. I want to get to know two countries, Thailand and Indonesia.
Carla: Thailand and Indonesia? Wow, sounds like they are so far away from here. You´ve been to so many different countries. I´ve never met anyone who´s traveled abroad as much as you. Don´t you ever feel homesick?
Ralph: I sometimes do a little. I miss my family and close friends mostly, but thanks to modern technology I can keep in touch with them through Skype and WhatsApp, so that really helps a lot. They often ask me to send them pictures of the places I´m visiting.
Carla: Cool! I just love seeing pics of new places. And what do you usually do when you go to a new country?
Ralph: I like to get into the culture of these new places. I really enjoy experiencing the way of life that´s unique to each country. That means tasting the local food, striking up a conversation with the locals and going to places where tourists don´t usually go. I mean, I have nothing against visiting the famous landmarks of a country, but there´s a lot more to it if you really want to make your trip productive and unforgettable.
Carla: That´s really cool! I guess going to the unconventional places makes all the difference, doesn´t it? Do you prepare beforehand for each trip?
Ralph: I do a lot of reading about the country I´m planning to visit. I also try to learn some key phrases in their native language so I can break the ice with the local people. You know, that usually opens doors. I´m actually learning some Indonesian right now.
Carla: Wow, you sound like you´re a professional traveler! My dream is to go to Venice and Milan one day. I´ll make sure I´ll talk to you before I start planning my trip to Italy. I´m sure you could give me some useful tips!
Ralph: Sure Carla, anytime! Just let me know. I´ll be glad to help.
